The Raid team comes down to breakfast, and chat with Raffin briefly over potato wedges. They mention the Overlord, but Raffin makes comments about praying to all the gods to “cover his bases.”

The team excuses themselves, and head into the mountains in search of cave trolls. They spot a giant tromping around, and decide to avoid him. They meet another giant, who is cooking deer over a large fire. At first, they decide to avoid him, but decide to double back in hopes of learning information about the cave trolls.

The giant is friendly, and tries to get them to stay and eat deer and talk about poetry. They listen politely to a few poems,

the anonymous, groping for the pearl of perfection, under its own hood, comes up with abstract extractions, that thump as stardust in unknown galaxies... and the same that as happy snowflakes, glisten beyond the window, on a silent christmas night.

Random acts of poetry

For someone you love

Or just a friend

Even to an acquaintance can a poem be given

For a poem showing love is not always a love poem

If it lifts someones spirits

If it makes them feel loved

If it mends the heart or warms the soul

Even to those you don't even know.

A poem could always be given.

-William Tell Milton

The Last Time You Tie Your Shoes

One morning,

you tie your shoes, and

low and behold, that afternoon

you fall down dead.

That's it.

Laced up the sneakers

and the eulogy.

Finally, the team asks about the cave trolls. The giant tells them where to find the cave trolls. The Raid team attempt to excuse themselves, but the giant insists they stay and talk about poetry more. Cenbald and Edward want to stay and listen (falling under mediocrity enchantment). Eventually, the team insists on leaving, which displeases the giant. As he is reaching for his club, they hop on their horses and ride hard to get away from the dark creature. Starflower gives biblical counsel to Cenbald and Edward.

The team arrives at the base of a cliff, which is the entrance to the cave troll’s lair. There are some large boulders at the bottom of the cliff, plenty of small rocks, and a couple of boulders are visible at the top of the ridge. The slope upwards gets progressively steeper the higher it goes. The team makes some noise, and a cave troll peeks out over the edge of the ridge. A second one shows his face a moment later.

Philip tries to start climbing the rock face, but a cave troll hurls a large rock at him. He manages to dodge, and the team regroups to strategize. Starflower pulls out her bow and Milda her sling as they get into position. Philip, Edward and William approach the base of the cliff, while Cenbald tries to distract the trolls. Next was a dodging game, where the trolls hurled rocks down at the climbers, who tried to dodge, and the rest of the team sent up rocks with their slings and shot arrows, and sent battle prayers. Eventually Philip managed to climb to the top. He rolled out of the way of the troll’s battle axe just in time, rolling to his feet and pulling out his own battle axe. One good chop, along with some arrows and rocks from below, finished off the first troll.

The second troll threw another rock down at Edward, then moved away from the edge of the ridge so that those with the range weapons wouldn’t be able to see him anymore. The troll grabbed more rocks and threw them at Philip, who managed to dodge every time. Philip found himself closer to the cave opening, and decided to step inside to take a quick look around. The troll attempted to push a boulder to trap Philip by blocking the entrance, but Philip managed to get out in time. The troll continued to try to throw rocks at Philip, but Philip decided to throw his battle axe, scoring a critical hit, taking down the troll.

He found a large rope coiled around a tree. He let the rope down and the rest of the team climbed up, except for Milda, who decided to stay below with the animals. They explored the cave, discovering two rooms full of bedding: mattresses, bedrolls, sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, etc.

Edward and Philip dragged all the bedding outside, tossing it down the cliff. Then the team climbed down, ready to depart. But some team members are injured, and others enchanted with the Owning Things enchantment.
