Edward’s eyes narrowed at the fog rolling in. Yes, they were camping near a river, but it made it harder to keep watch.

After a tick or so of nothing, a flash of light caught his eyes. He looked up sharply, and saw a stream of glowing, glittery purple light streaking across the sky.

“What is that?” he mumbled, slowly drawing his swords. The ribbon of purple glitter flowed away, and a second one streaked after it, although in a slightly different trajectory.

“It’s coming from the direction of the river,” Edward turned south, but he couldn’t see anything through the fog.

Session #6

Date in Real Life: Sunday, 13 November, 2022

In Game Day: Morning of Shalosh, the 14th of Sawol

Hector administered first aid to the injured crews, along with the help of Edward and the ship’s surgeon. William prepared some lunch, since the Salt Dog’s cook had died in the battle. Starflower and Edward and Philip shared the great rescue with the pirate crew.

Starflower later spoke with the girl they had found in the hold of the pirate ship. She learned the girl was named Francessca Nesav. She was the daughter of the former captain of the ship, Captain Nesav. She is 13 years old. Although born in Hoyde, she has spent most of her life on the ship, sailing up and down the river with her father and crew. The selfoe had killed her father and deceived the crew recently. Starflower realized that meant that Francessca was now the legal owner of the ship, and pointed this out to her. Starflower shared the Great Rescue, and Francessca accepted the message. Starflower learned that the ship was called The Covenant. Francessca decided to rename it to The New Covenant.

With some members of both crews dead, the Captain of the Salt Dog decided they would return to Badun to return the bodies to the families. The Captain asked the crew of the New Covenant if they would serve as Francessca’s crew, to which the survivors agreed. Francessca called for a meeting with Captain “Rat” and the Lightraiders to ask for advice. Both her Quartermaster and her Sailing Master were dead, leaving her with no idea what was in the cargo hold, and no one to navigate. The Lightraiders agreed to sail with her on the New Covenant and continue to CremCremCare, where they could hopefully sell their cargo, find replacement crew members, and get their ballista repaired.

Edward offered to serve as a temporary navigator on the way to CremCremCare.

The group also found a strange map in the captain’s quarters. Francessca didn’t recognize it. Starflower recognized the Selfoe script in some strange lettering, and deduced it was the selfoe’s map.

Francessca leaned forward in her chair. She raised her arms slightly, then brought them back down, gripping the armrests. She took a deep breath. “Okay, I can do this,” she said quietly. She launched herself out of the chair and strode swiftly to the cabin door. Her hand hesitated on the handle a moment, then she ripped it open in one fluid jerk.

“Julia!” she called her first mate. Julia glanced up from where she was near the centre mast.

Julia came up to Francessca. “Yes, Cap’n?”

“Get the ship ready to sail.” Francessca’s voice was bold and authoritative. “We’ll be heading to CremCremCare in about a tick, as soon as the Salt Dog’s quartermaster has helped us figure out what we’re carrying.”

“Aye, aye, Cap’n!” Julia responded. She turned on her heel and started barking orders to various crew members.

“And get that thing off my mast!” Francessca called after her, pointing at the pirate flag that was still flying.

“Aye, aye, Cap’n!” Julia called over her shoulder.

Francessca closed the door and Starflower could see she was shaking.

“You did it. You gave orders as Captain, and they are following,” Starflower said.

Francessca smiled weakly. “Yeah, I did, didn’t I? This is going to take some getting used to.”
